Re the April 21 article, Spanish king apologizes for elephant hunting trip: It’s OK if King Juan Carlos of Spain hunts turkey, or perhaps quail, providing it’s not in the company of Dick Cheney, which may result in a more serious accident than the fractured hip the king suffered on his hunting trip, but seriously, elephants?

That hunt in Africa cost $59,500 from a country where unemployment is the daily agenda. There is much he could have done with that money to benefit his country’s needy.
But no, the king had to go out and hunt elephants in Botswana and contribute to the extinction of these beautiful animals that are estimated to disappear in 50 years from many parts of Africa unless preventive measures are taken.
